Hemp hurds, are the woody internal part of the plant stem, that remains after the bark fibre is removed and it can absorb five times as much liquid as its own weight.

When combined with water and lime, it goes through a “mineralization” process that makes the bio composite durable and effective. The performance of the blend of hemp, lime, and other natural material, is thought to be superior to that of any other material currently on the market.

The biomass generated in 3-4 months is the equivalent of what a tree is able to grow in four years, corresponding to the amount of CO2 removed from the atmosphere in equal parts.

Thus, using hemp and lime in construction is the first building material with a negative carbon footprint and prevents carbon from being released back into the atmosphere.

Advantages of Hemp Hurds in Construction

Rich in microscopic air-filled alveoli, hemp chipboard (hemp) allows for constant micro-condensation and micro-evaporation processes that prevent heat and cold from entering the building from the outside (and vice versa) and control humidity, providing a very comfortable living environment.

DISPOSAL

Hemp is transformed into a high-quality organic-mineral fertilizer, due to the significant decrease in ammonia nitrogen content without changing the soil’s natural equilibrium, making it suitable for farmers. 

TOXICITY

All members are admitted by the Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Policy Regulations “Code for the Protection and Management of Equidae” art.1.4.16.
Classified as NOT dangerous under the Dl. 14/03 of 2003 n. 65 implementing directives 99/45 EC and 2001/60 / EC.
It does not contain substances that present health or environmental hazards in individual concentrations> 0 = 1% therefore Directive 2001/58 / EC, transposed by the decree of the Ministry of Health of 07/09/2002, does not apply. Therefore no toxicity was found.
